Three former Sherwood students have died within the past week.

Miguel Vargas, Jr., a 2004 graduate, was killed in an automobile accident. Vargas was a sophomore at Lincoln Tech.

Deysi Ayala, an ESOL student, recently withdrew from Sherwood to return to her home in El Salvador. The details surrounding her death have yet to be determined.

Brian McCloskey, a 2005 graduate and freshman at Virginia Tech, died yesterday from injuries endured earlier this week.

The administration will release more information when updates are received from the student's families.

As a result of these losses, the Sherwood administration has activated a crisis team to assist counselors in supporting students and staff in need of grief counseling.

"The three tragedies have affected our students, staff and our community as a whole. The entire Sherwood community extends its heartfelt sympathy to family friends and relatives," said Principal John Yore in a letter distributed to students at the end of the school day on Friday.
